Join The Conversation

In honor of both National Suicide Prevention Week and Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, we tapped mental health podcaster, Izzy Baker, to host this virtual conversation with the creators and some of the cast of the new mental health documentary, Unspoken Casualties. Through intimate stories of real people who have struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts, Unspoken Casualties is a medium-length documentary that immerses us in the national crisis surrounding mental health during the pandemic.

Needs/ Problems

Suicide happens everyday to the point where it is perhaps being normalized. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one person dies every 40 seconds to suicide in the United States. Suicide has been ranked as the 10th leading cause of death nationwide. However today it feels like it is the second leading cause of death in the age of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mental health and suicide rates have spiked within the last year due to the entire nation shutting down and temporarily stopping normal everyday activities in order to prevent the spread of the lethal virus.

Goal & Objectives

The purpose of this project is to bring awareness to an age old issue. With this documentary being the driving force of the conversation, it is a way to help save lives and be an inspiration to others with the opportunity to help take care of each other when it comes to an uncomfortable topic such as this.
